Spring Tables, Summer Evenings & Something Sweet

There’s something about this time of year that makes me want to open the doors, set the table and have people over.

Spring lunches that linger a little longer. Afternoon tea in the garden. Birthdays, barbecues and summer evenings where everyone ends up sitting around the table long after the plates have been cleared.

I’ve always loved hosting, but I don’t think it needs to be complicated.

A beautiful table doesn’t need to be perfect. Bring out the linen you’ve been saving, pick something from the garden, mix the good plates with the everyday ones and light the candles — even if it’s still daylight.

And always, always have cake.

Enter, The Cake Edition

This spring and summer, we’re adding two new baking kits to The Sunday Pantry — French Vanilla Cake and Chocolate Cake.

They’re the kind of cakes I love most. Simple, classic and endlessly versatile.

The French Vanilla can become a beautiful layer cake with lemon buttercream, something piled high with berries and cream, or little vanilla cupcakes covered in icing and far too many sprinkles.

And the Chocolate Cake? Rich, soft and made for a generous swirl of chocolate buttercream — although I’m certainly not going to tell you how to decorate her.

That’s part of the fun.

We give you the baking kit and the recipe. You add a handful of fresh ingredients and make it completely your own.

Made to Share

For me, baking has never really been about producing something perfect.

It’s about what happens around it.

It’s taking a cake to someone’s house instead of arriving empty-handed. Making cupcakes with your children. Putting candles on a birthday cake. Having friends over for coffee and cutting everyone a slice that’s probably much too big.

Food is my love language, and The Sunday Pantry has always been an extension of that.

So this collection feels particularly special.

A Summer of Hosting

This season, I’m embracing the kind of entertaining I love most: relaxed, beautiful and just a little bit nostalgic.

Big bowls of salad. Cold drinks. Linen tablecloths. Flowers cut from the garden. Food passed around the table. Dogs inevitably underfoot.

And something homemade waiting for afterwards.

Nothing too precious. Nothing too perfect.

Just good food and our favourite people around the table.
